The Centre of Alternative Medicine is the heart of Centro Nijo. Our philosophy of healing here is based on an holistic view of the world. Because we believe that human beings cannot be reduced into parts, we treat not only the physical aspects of an ailment, but the underlying emotional and energetic issues, as well. Every cell in the body is made of energy, which vibrates at a specific frequency. Every human being, then, is a unique unit of energy with its own frequency, which can be disrupted by injury or illness. As healers, our task is to realign the mind, body, and spirit, so that the vibration of the vital energy within us is free to affect its own healing, returning the body to its natural state of health.
Our therapists are able to treat a variety of illnesses and ailments in individual consultations, offered on a sliding scale basis, five day a week. As a patient in our Centre of Alternative Medicine, you can expect your therapist to draw on a wide range of therapies, designing a personalized treatment for your unique healing session which can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. From diagnosis and treatment, to prevention and nutrition, our medicine blends a whole universe of ancient healing methods and spiritual wisdom with the most up-to-date modern knowledge. Standard Therapies Special Therapies HOW THE TREATMENTS WORK Acupuncture: Acupuncture is an ancient art that derives from Chinese Medicine. It stimulates centers of the natural, electrical energy currents that run throughout the human body, called meridians, through the use of ultra-fine needles placed painlessly in the skin. Oriental Massage: Oriental Massage employs massage, pressure, percussion, stretching, friction, and long movements along the meridians to unblock tension in the muscles, realigning the natural flow of energy in the body. Osteopathic Manipulation: A system of joint and spinal manipulation similar to chiropractic, which adjusts bones as well as joints for correct body alignment and optimum well-being. Reiki: An energetic healing technique originating from Japan, Reiki works on the basis of stimulating the energy field that radiates from the body. Through gentle placing of the practioner’s hands, breathing and visualization exercises, this healing technique helps to calm, clear, and boost one’s energy levels. Reflexology: Reflexology follows a Chinese map of energy, where zones on the feet correspond to internal and external parts of the body. Therapists use pressure and massage in specific areas of the feet to reharmonise the body’s natural flow of energy. APPOINTMENTS Currently, we run a drop-in clinic five days a week. Please be aware that we generally take lunch from about 2-3pm daily. Treatments cost around $200 pesos/$20 US dollars, and please remember that this helps support our work! Thanks! In addition to our individual consultations, we offer group temazcales about every other Wednesday at 5 pm. A traditional Native North American and Mexican ‘sweat-lodge’, the temazcal is a ritual of cleansing and reconnection with the elements. Inside a low dome built according to principles of sacred geometry, red hot stones are sprinkled with a medicinal tea to produce a purifying steam. Through ritual, songs and drumming, guided visualization, and the effect of the steam, the body is purified of its inner toxins. At the beginning of the temazcal, each participant is also given a 'limpia' which is an energetic and spiritual cleansing with feathers, copal smoke, and the power of the curandero. Our temazcales last approximately 2 hours, with time after to rinse down. Please bring a swimsuit and towel, or wear clothes you're not afraid to get wet or muddy. We ask for a $100 peso/$10 US donation to off-set the costs of the temazcal; if you're interested in attending, please CONTACT us to find out the next date. Here at Centro Nijo, everything we create is made by hand, with love, with ingredients that come straight from the earth. We offer a variety of herbal remedies and tinctures to support our clients, natural insect repellant, and sacred crafts made by our resident artisans.
